About Aye Spy Cosplay Photography

Aye Spy Cosplay Photography was created by Ryan Rumpel. It serves as my creative escape from the real world to freely create with the help of cosplayers the fantasy realms that their cosplays originate from. I am a DC, Marvel, Lord of the Rings, and Star Wars fan, and I have a growing library of anime behind my knowledge. I have to admit that I don’t know as much about games, but if I have references for shoots, we can create our escapes together.

I am also a pirate re-enactor, and am part of the pirate entertainment community. I assist with Festival des Pirates, and have been volunteering my photography services to them since 2017. I have shot numerous events on behalf of Festival des Pirates, so one of my recurring themes is pirates.

I have been working and researching for building a set of Mandalorian armour as far back as 2011, and it remains a work in progress. Through the process though, I have made friends with finished armour who constantly book my services that I am happy to provide. The new Disney+ Star Wars series of The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett have both been a joy to watch, and an inspiration for more shoots and to also finish my armour.

I love learning more about different areas of nerd culture, so I will do my own research for shoots if I have plenty of lead time. If not, the best thing that any cosplayer can bring to a shoot are reference shots of their character and series that they’re a part of.

This is me.

Shot was taken by Phillipe Manh Nguyen while we were walking (exhausted) around Old Montréal during Montréal Comiccon 2022.

I am currently a student at Dawson College, and a freelance photographer (when I have time). I am also a member of TEDDi, and have access to the studio for any project I take on. I love working with cosplayers in environments that suit the cosplay, or the concept that I may be approached with. If you have a concept that you’d like to shoot, please click the button below.
